A detailed shielding design report for the radiology department and other areas, where shielding may be required, is prepared. UHS provides design specifications, workload, and designation of areas for staff and public, as well as, calculation parameters used, and assumptions made. UHS specifies shielding for all radiology areas, which complies with the general guidelines and regulatory requirements, including dimensions and type of concrete shielding. These areas include: PET, CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, nuclear medicine (hot patient waiting, hot water closet, hot lab, injection room), as well as, radiation therapy vaults.
